Þórunn Vala Valdimarsdóttir

Þórunn Vala Valdimarsdóttir is an Icelandic soprano currently living in Kópavogur. She began her music studies at an early age, first playing the viola and later studying vocal performance. She finished her diploma in Iceland at The Reykjavík Academy of Singing and Vocal Arts and moved to Utrecht, Holland, where she studied at the HKU, University of the Arts Utrecht. She finished her studies there in 2012 under the guidance of Charlotte Margiono and Jón Þorsteinsson. Þórunn has participated in many music festivals both in Iceland and Holland: The Skálholt Summer Music Festival, Festival of Sacred Arts, Hallgrímskirkja, Bergmál chamber music festival, Sönghátíð í Hafnarborg, Early Music Festival at Hólar, Yo- Opera in Utrecht and Næstved Early Music Festival, Denmark. She has been very active in choirs both in Iceland and Holland and has sung at the Concertgebouw, Dutch Opera, a variety of events in Nijmegen, Antwerp, Berlin, and around Scandinavia. Þórunn has attended masterclasses with dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Elisabeth Meyer-Topsöe, Peter Nilson, and Rudolf Jansen. In 2014, Þórunn was selected to perform a solo concert through the funded series Tónsnillingar morgundagsins, which affords a select number of young artists to present programs in Harpa concert hall. Þórunn is an active member of the vocal group Cantoque Ensemble and St Barbarachoir in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. Þórunn has finished a masters degree in Applied Studies in Culture and Communication from University of Iceland
