Friðþjófur completed his undergraduate studies in lighting design at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2009 and a master's degree in scenography at Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design in 2013. For over a decade, he has been based in the UK, and in addition to his work there it has been seen in Ireland, Europe, the Bermuda Islands, the United States, South Korea, China, India and beyond. In Iceland, he has mainly worked with Frystiklefinn in Rif in Snæfellsnes, but also other independent groups. Friðþjófur has designed for plays, musicals, contemporary dance, ballet, puppetry, various events and also in London, Paris and Milan fashion weeks. In addition to designing for performance, Friðþjófur is a theatre consultant to architects, designing performance venues, and as such has been involved in about fifty theatres, opera houses, concert halls, sports stadiums, museums, bespoke halls of spectacle, outdoor venues, consultancy on operations and other element in regards to expansion and opportunities worldwide. He is furthermore a visiting lecturer at all the major drama schools in the UK. Friðþjófur's recent works include The Intelligence Park (Music Theater Wales & Royal Opera House), The Lady of the Camellias (Shanghai Ballet), Hadestown (The Royal National Theater - co-designer), Unfamiliar (Frystiklefinn), Benedikt Búálfur (Leikfélag Akureyrar), Allra veðra von (Hringleikur) etc. Due to the pandemic, Friðþjófur is now in Iceland and has the good fortune to work with Óperudagar for the first time. Upcoming productions include Blóðuga Kanínan by Elísabet Jökulsdóttir (Fimbulvetur), Langelstur að eilifur bý Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir (Gaflaraleikhúsið) and others.
