Vera Hjördís Matsdóttir

The half-Icelandic, half-Swedish soprano singer Vera Hjördís Matsdóttir completed a master's degree in classical singing at Royal Conservatoire The Hague earlier this year. She received a bachelor's degree from Iceland University of the Arts in the spring of 2020. Her teachers were Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir, Kristinn Sigmundsson, Ólöf Kolbrún Harðardóttir, and Þóra Einarsdóttir. Upon graduating from Iceland University of the Arts, Vera was a recipient of the Halldór Hansen Scholarship Fund. She was also among the 16 students who received a scholarship from Iceland National Bank (Landsbankinn) in the spring of 2023.
Vera regularly performs as a soloist in Iceland. Recent examples from this year including participation in the concert series "Welcome Home" where she gave a singing recital in Harpa Concert Hall along with Einar Bjartur Egilson pianist, and a performance with Lorelei Collective at the Siglufjörður Folk Music Festival. Vera played the lead role in a new Icelandic opera by Sigrún Gyða Sveinsdóttir, SKJÓTA, which was performed at Ásmundarsalur, as well as a soloist appearance in a performance of Oratorio de Noël by Saint-Saëns at Seltjarnarneskirkja under the direction of conductor Stefan Sand.
This season’s projects include, an aria recital in Hafnarborg along with Antonia Hevesi pianist and a debut in the role of Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart in a production by Kammeróperan in collaboration with the Reykjavík City Theatre (Borgarleikhúsið).
