Xun Yang was born in Xiamen (Amoy) in China and studied with Yang Mingling and later with Luo Bing and Chao Hui in Shanghai. He completed bachelor study in Yong Siew Toh Conservatory with Guennadi Mouzyka before he went to Mannheim Musikhochschule to study with Petru Iuga, where he graduated at highest grade on Soloist degree. 

Xun won second prize winner of VI Koussevitzky Competition in St.Petersburg in 2016. He has performed concertos with Xiamen Philharmonic, Baden-Baden Philharmonic, AufTakt Orchester Heidelberg and St. Petersburg Conservatory Orchestra. Xun gained lots of orchestra experience playing with Singapore Symphony Orchestra before joining the Iceland Symphony Orchestra as principal double bass in 2019.
